Position Summary

The Lifeguard position at Diamond Arrow is more than monitoring the pool—it is an opportunity to serve guests, protect safety, and grow through meaningful work in a Christ-centered environment.

Lifeguards help create a safe, welcoming, and enjoyable experience for campers and guests while participating in the broader mission and community of camp life. In addition to overseeing pool activities, lifeguards also serve alongside the summer staff team in operational roles throughout camp when not actively guarding.

This role is ideal for someone who enjoys responsibility, works well with people, and wants to grow through both leadership and service.

What to Expect

This is a hands-on, active role that combines:

  • Lifeguarding responsibilities

  • Pool maintenance tasks

  • General summer staff support throughout camp

Lifeguards should expect:

  • Long, active days outdoors

  • Responsibility for guest safety and attentiveness

  • Team-oriented work environments

  • Flexibility in serving wherever needed around camp

This role requires both vigilance and a servant-hearted attitude.

Key Responsibilities

Lifeguarding

  • Supervise pool activities and ensure guest safety

  • Enforce pool rules consistently and professionally

  • Respond appropriately in emergency situations

Pool Maintenance

  • Clean the pool deck and surrounding area

  • Vacuum and skim the pool

  • Take and record pool chemical readings under supervision of the Maintenance Coordinator

Summer Staff Support

When not actively lifeguarding, assist in:

  • Kitchen and food service

  • Housekeeping and cleaning

  • Guest hospitality and site support

  • Other operational needs around camp

Dates & Pay

  • Approx. June 1 – August 2 (exact dates may vary slightly)

  • $17/Hour for Local Summer Staff

  • $425/Week for Resident Summer Staff

  • Includes training for operational roles, optional summer program, and the opportunity to continue employment after the summer season

  • Flexible scheduling depending on availability and need

  • Shifts may include mornings, afternoons, evenings, and weekends

Bonus Opportunity

Lifeguards who complete:

  • One full summer in good standing receive a $125 bonus

  • Two full summers in good standing receive an additional $125 bonus

These bonuses are intended to help offset the cost of lifeguard certification.

Certification Requirements

Applicants must:

  • Hold a current lifeguard certification

  • Be able to confidently enforce pool safety procedures

  • Demonstrate maturity, attentiveness, and sound judgment
